Are Nasty Comments Like These Keeping Women Out Of Science?
"It’s death by a thousand cuts. Every day you’re faced with some comment, some snide remark, some inability to get a name on a research paper. And with an accumulation of those experiences, women tend to walk with their feet."

This is all too common. Unfortunately it happens in a range of fields as well - though the focus on science and tech is VERY important.
I once had a mentor teacher (who I was shadowing for a day) who, after telling the class that he believed women were equal (if not “more equal than men”), told me that one of his female students was so smart and capable in his law class that she could one day move on to “become a great legal secretary!”
Like not a lawyer, not a judge….
I have a feeling if this student were male that he may have said one of those two things….
When I was in high school, one of the chem professors did a simple ice cream experiment, and told all the girls at my math and science track high school that one day they could make ice cream for their husbands and children.
He came up to me while I was working on a study sheet and knitting (I possibly have slight ADD, so it’s good to keep my hands busy while I think), and told me that there would be plenty of time for knitting when I became a housewife, but for now I was a student.
There was a lot of that kind of shit.
